When to harvest honey

#1

Hi. I have just gotten a swarm last week, they’re making comb. I would just like to know when is the best time of year to harvest the honey. I figured sometime next spring, but I’m not sure. I don’t want to jump the gun and I’m in now hurry to any. Just need to know when it’s best to do it. Thanks

Likely not until next year at this point. In a top bar hive, you’re usually going to harvest when the hive gets close to filling up. This could be once a season, or multiple. You’ll want to monitor them closely for comb production, ensuring they have enough space. As they get close to filling, go in and find a couple capped honey combs to remove, making sure to leave plenty for them.

Thanks for the info. I figured it might not be until next spring. Sure wish the Sharks had helped you out. By the way, I received the boardman feeder I ordered yesterday and it works great. Thanks. Barry
