Varroa treatment in a topbar hive

How do you treat for varroa in a topbar hive? Where do you put the strips? Not on top, right?

You’ll need to get a bit creative if treating for Varroa with products meant for Langstroth hives, as they won’t fit/attach exactly as they are meant to for more common hives. While we don’t treat in our own apiary, we have had customers use Mite Away Quick Strips (I assume these are the ones you’re referring to) laid on the bottom of the hive rather than across the top bars. Or you could temporarily gap the top bars just slightly and lay the strips across the top.

Thanks Matt, very constructive information that I’ll put to use shortly, hope to be out your way next year.
